Kazakhstan just made crypto history by becoming the first country in its region to officially accept stablecoins for paying government fees. The Astana Financial Services Authority announced this groundbreaking move during Astana Finance Days 2025, allowing companies to pay their regulatory fees using USDT and USDC instead of traditional money.
This is actually a pretty big deal because it’s the first time a government regulator has basically said “yeah, we’ll take your digital dollars for official business.” Companies operating in the Astana International Financial Centre can now settle their licensing and supervision fees using these dollar-backed cryptocurrencies.
Bybit became the first crypto exchange to sign up for this new system, with their COO calling it a step toward more “compliant, secure, and frictionless solutions.” The way it works is that approved crypto service providers act like middlemen – they take your stablecoin payment and convert it to regular dollars for the government.
Kazakhstan has been getting really serious about crypto lately. They’ve already given full licenses to major exchanges like Bybit and Binance, while also cracking down hard on illegal platforms. Over the past two years, they’ve blocked nearly 1,000 illegal crypto sites and frozen over $75 million tied to scams and pyramid schemes.
The country is also working on its own digital currency called the digital tenge, which should launch by the end of this year.
